trying to unseal my sealed beams..... help

i just bought some new sealed beams. My headlights have an opening in the back fo the headlight canister to insert bulbs. Also b/c they are so old the glass just fell off the canister. I bought the sealed beams fro 7 bucks each brand new...... this is just hte headlight. I want to take off the glass from the sealed beam and silicone it on the other canister. How do i take the glass off.... Oven? What temp? Isn't it vacume sealed? Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

OK Dave, they're sealed beams, meaning they're sealed. Meaning there's absolutely no point in you doing what you want to do. Furthermore, you didn't buy sealed beams (the lens donors) because if they were sealed, then they would not have an opening in the back for a bulb. For the $14 you spent on those two, you could have just bought some new sealed beams.

To answer your question, They are vacuum sealed, and you will be looking at a hell of a lot of work to get them apart, without any real benefit. At all.

no no no.... i bought sealed beams (which didnt have a whoel in the back), its the bulb and headlight all in one. In my car i have headlights that have the hole in the back. The glass fell off of the ones that had the hole in the back, which were already on my car...... so i just wanted to use the glass from the sealed beams i bought, and put it on the canister that had the hole in the back. You know what i mean? BUT if i cant take the glass off the sealed beam then there really isnt any point. Sorry fo rthe confusion.

Do you have ellipsoids, or H4's in your car (that the glass fell off of)?

I think I speak for everybody when I say, "No, I have no idea what you're talking about."

          Take some pictures.

Some 'sealed beam' low-beams have the lens that is siliconed onto the reflector. Just put it in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes. Then take a putty-knife or something similar and push it through the soft silicone in between the reflector and the lens. Then just turn the knife blade and the lens should come off.

I'm guessing you have H4s, or ellipsoids with broken lenses and you want to use sealed beam lenses? haha, that's not going to work!! even if you did pull it off, your beam pattern would be fucked.

if you're replacing ellipsoid high beam lenses, I have a new set for $25 in fs/ft

Plus...sealed beam lenses are curved. Elips and H4's are flat.

There are plenty of H4 reflector housings with convex lenses.

You can remove the lens from a low-beam 5 3/4" sylvania headlamp used on a 'sealed beam' e30; I've done it. The highbeams are completely sealed glass, you cannot remove them.

My apologies. I was reffering to the H4's that I have experience with (Hella).
