    Professional detailing

My birthday is in a week and I'm looking to spend some money, I've been thinking of getting a good detail on the exterior of my car. It has never been buffed and is in pretty good condition but I want it to look like new. So my question is what kind of results can I expect from detailing, like buffing?

    Thanks

Nothing you hand rub onto your paint can compare to a professional cut and polish.

So a cut and polish would work best for what I want? Do you know any good places around the NW jordan?

You can buy a Porter Cable Buffer system from Meguir's for about $85.00

I would do it myself but I'm too worried I would burn the paint or something, and I really dont have anything to practice on.

Anyone can buy a entry level unit.... at least go for something decent :x

Having a high speed buffer is only half the battle. If you are using cutter for your first time, you will cut through the paint someplace, more likely in many places.

Its worth paying someone with experience to do. That way if they cut through (they wont) they get to pay for repaint repairs.

How else is he going to learn? And what is wrong with a Porter cable buffer? It's the same buffer that Griots sells for $300. So he could practice on a fender or a hood. Buy a spare body panel and have at it.

I learned how to use a cutter on 3 hoods I picked up from the junker for $15.

As for the porter cable, it is a very good random orbital buffer. Probably one of the best RO buffers out there, However, it is an RO buffer. Professional detailers use rotary buffers. The precision it offers you, along with the quality of the job that gets done > RO buffers.

For a newbie, the porter cable is definitely the way to go. But, if he truly wants "Professional Detailing" like his thread states, he's going to have to learn how to cut/polish and buff with a rotary buffer.

It'll be worth the money. I just spent a few weeks working in professional detailing and the results of some of the high speed buffing was absolutely incredible.

generally how much does a good cut and polish run at a professional detailer?

Well, it depends on how good your paint is. If they have to do 1 vs 5 hours worth of labor.

On average (around here) a cut, polish, seal & wax will run you about $120-200.

Im debating on what to do aslo with my paint...

I think im gonna start of with buying the Porter cable 7424 and get the job started. After a few week i will see what it looks like. Then I might get the major scratches done buy the professionals. After my paint is flawless without any scratches or swarl marks i might consider just getting the top layer repainted so this time it wont get messed up.
