    Shadowline

has any of you guys shadowlined your chrome trim? im fairly keen to, i like the look on a black car and i have most if not all of the SE features.....i know its cheap and nasty but how well does painting it work? how would you prep it? any other methods? the shadowline trim is just too painful from the dealer....

http://www.strictlyeta.net/technical/shadowline.html this is a direct link on how to shadowline while the trim is still on the car. Very good instructions. It looks to be easy just time consuming. I plan to do this myself next weekend using that tutorial.

the upper trim isn't very easy to remove, but the lower trim is super easy to pop out especially on a 4-door. just roll your windows all the way down, remove your mirrors and from the inside of the car use the window for leverage (put plastic or something under the screwdriver so you don't scratch the window). it simply pops out a little at a time.

for the upper trim you first have to remove the trim clip that's at the top of the C pillar. then it's simply a matter of prying the trim off.. the hard part is doing it without bending the shit out of the trim. it might be best to just leave the top part on if you don't want to damage it.

for preparation, cleaning it really good and scuffing it works fine (maybe 400-600 grit sandpaper). mine has held up well, except all the pits from the million rocks I got pegged with last winter :(

i would recommend going to ajunkyard and looking for a 318is, it might be kinda hard to find, but thats how my dad picked mine up. also, when youre taking the chrome lining off its hard not to bend it, i was taking mine off, being kinda careful even though i was going to throw it away and sometimes a clip wouldnt let go and it bent in a second, so be careful removing it.

Hey, I need some help with this too... I have a junker I want to take 4 pieces off of. It is from a 2 door and the 2 pieces (driver/passenger side) above the window I got off with no problems.

                >> Im wondering though, if there is a trick to getting the stuff off, that is above the pop-out windows on 2 doors? I havent spent a lot of time on it, but it doesnt seem as straight forward as the window parts.

                TIA for any help,

It's not hard at all to remove the top trim. Just start at the mirror and pull out then towards the top you kinda have to twist up and pull it off. Its not difficult, even if it bends a little you can bend it back before you put it back on.
