    My Air dam progress

So I got this Air dam for free. Pretty damaged, as you can tell. Somewhat recently I began work on it. I had to totaly reconstruct the missing piece. I used a combination of expandable foam, fiberglass, bondo, and glazing putty to construct the missing piece.

There is still lots of sanding to be done.

    Before

Now, all the splotches and stuff are smooth dont worry. I know there is a crack in the top I am leaving that, you won't see it when mounted and it is plenty stong. I have to smooth, fill, and sand the top and rear visable portion of this piece for it to be "done".

There was a big ass crack here. Slight resin drip still, gotta sand that off. You can also see the back of the area I constructed.

It is going to be painted flat black since my fix is FAR from flawless. I am getting a full one (damaged but not as bad as this) later in the summer and will probably paint that one body color for next summer.

Most people told me not to bother with this air dam, even though it wont turn out looking amazing and will no doubt explode if i hit that corner hard enough it's been an interesting thing to work on while I had lots of free time.

    Sold it.

I also wonder if it will fall apart after those different materials expand and contract at different rates in the cold/hot weather. Good luck with it though!

Well the foam is to be used in all weather. The bondo would def crack in the cold (but I am removing it in the winter because if I hit it, its toast) The fiber glass holding the foam bondo thing on and the whole thing together should be fine in any weather.

Random, he hit it on a snow bank, then ran it over.

Yours will be a step up... when pay day comes.

        Sold it.

"All Weather" doesn't = no expansion/contraction. Even metal and concrete expand and contract with changing temperatures.

Yes, but don't forget, her got it FOR FREE. IF it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. The only thing he lost was money in suplies and a little elbow greese. Plus he gained the experience of fixing it.

Damn, I missed the 'free' part. In that case, I totally agree with Andy.

                The Air Dam was $0
                Can of Foam was $7
The Bondo and Fiberglass was my friends who I drive around so I didn't pay
                Primer $8
                :D

Ya, learning to do it was probably the best part. When my friend pitched the foam idea I thought he was out to lunch. Sanding is LOTS of work. I cant belive the things people use bondo for.

                Sold it.

Anyone can say what they want. Fact is I learned something while doing it and it cost me as much as a good night out at the bar or something would have so its all good.

                              Quick Pics

Note the top of the piece I made will not been seen when mounted.

Sanded more today, forgot to take pics of the back of the piece I made. Tomarrow in the day

The flash on this camera makes things look like crap. O well. The right side looks a little short, but its not really, nothings lined up I just propped it up with garbage. I am going to work on it again probably saturday and blast both sides with primer and take new pics.

                              Sold it.
