Safety, and Euro trim..... (no sidemarkers)

Alright folks, decision time. I have a broken sidemarker, and a broken sidetrim piece. So I must choose whether to replace these items, or take the opportunity to buy euro trim. If I do go Euro trim, I would like to do it soon because my friend and I could still get discounts at the dealership.

The hang up though is that my parents are nerds and think that removing the sidemarkers would be dangerous. Cars at night coming from the side would not see me. Of course, the same is probably true if they were painted with tint spray, too.

So I am unsure what I should do. I guess if someone has a spare red sidemarker I'd like it, and the rear trim as well on the passneger side.

    Robert,

I will have a sidemarker for you in about two weeks. You want it for say 3 bucks to cover shipping?

That would be very kind of you. Yes, if I don't decide to opt for euro trim, I'll take you up on your offer.

Let me know. If you don't take it, I'll probably take my chance on eBay. :P

I have NEVER had anyone pull into my lane at night. Daytime is another story.

I havent had sidemarkers for a long time now. People in European countries have been without even longer.

Tell your parents that for true safety you need euro ellips with HID for better lighting.
          Im now E30less.

You'll be fine, I haven't had sidemarkers for years.

Couldn't agree more. In the last week I have had people almost change lanes right into me twice. And both times were during the day. Even in broad daylight an idiot can still manage to "not see you." And any idiot who didn't see your headlights on the road at night is probably going to hit you anyways, sidemarkers or not.

I've gone a couple years with euro trim. Never any trouble.

it is just that I was rolling and saw a reflection in a SUV's side and noticed how without sidemarkerrs, i could not really be seen, but with one on, a bit more was visible.

some of it is cost-dependent, if my friend can get a good discount, like 30-40%, then sure I'll do it now. Otherwise, might as well grab Dave's spare. :)

Oh, and if I can get a discount on an IS lip, i'll bring the front up a little and drive more carefully!

If you do keep them, and are worried about safety, wire them to be turnsignals.

I've also had someone, only during the day, try to pull into my line. Thank god the E30 has pretty good brakes from the get go...
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Heh, I had my driving test yesterday and I had one of them out, and when I went to replace it the socket was FILLED with crap. So I just disconnected the other side too. The examiner looked at one side, then went to the other and figured it must not be designed to light up. The Lamin-x on the front signals almost got me failed from the get-go though.
