how many cans for bumper trim? & paint opinion

how many rattle can's of delphine metallic would i need to paint the front and rear bumper trim? how many if i painted the bumpers too? should i use a primer first? what kind of primer.?

also. i need to paint my diving board allum bumpers. i was originally thinking all black, but do you think that is too much black? should i paint the allum delphin metallic and leave that rubber strip black?

    thanks for your help.

you'd probably need 2 cans of primer, two cans of base and 3-4 cans of clear to do it properly.

Unless you have experience with this sort of thing, it's going to turn out like ass. rattle cans are pretty hard to get a nice finish with, I managed with my is lip and basketweaves but I put a lot of hours and effort into it. it probably won't cost much more to have a body shop do it, you might want to get a few other things painted too.

you can get body colored rattlecans from www.paintscratch.com, but it's not exactly cheap paint (which is a good thing).

you'd only need 1 spray can if you are just doing the bumper trim.

I think the most important thing about painting anything is the prep. Just spend a lot of time on prepping. Sand off any big scratches, bumps ... keep working on the surface, with finer and finer sandpaper, and in the end, wet sand it.

Make sure that when you are using a rough sandpaper, it is on a solid pad of some sort, if you use a rough paper on its own, you could end up with a wavy surface.

First coat, spray the surface evenly leaving lil dots, let it dry for a bit, then start the painting process, that way you'll avoid drippage. Wet sand it again if you find imperfections (when its dry).

yah black. I guess black would be a lot easier paint to work with. But silver is a fairly easy color to apply as well. As long you aren't trying to apply yellow or something, the amount of paint don't change that much.

I painted my fog covers with a can of color coded paint, the bottle still feels full haha...

anyways, I guess having more paint sitting around would be better than not having enough... so bmwbro, follow nando's advice 8)

actually, metallic paints are a PITA to do right. each coat has to be evenly applied or it will look splotchy.
