On the e30 convertibles are the front and (sometimes featured) rear headrests the same? Thanks

Most including me use the same headrests but I redid some e30 rears for a customer and the headrests were actually a little smaller. Not sure if the posts are the same width but I thought about switching mine out to the E46 small rear headrests.

how much is "a little bit smaller" can you recall? I could totally just use some fronts. this will be a retrofit as the back seat was never optioned with them in my car. Only worry is clearance of the top up and down.

btw thanks in advance. you're always a LOT of help Kevin! ^^

All of the ones I've seen have been exactly the same and completely interchangeable, but I havn't seen too many sets of them.

I've sold a lot of e30 rear headrest "kits" and from all my experience the front and rear headrests are exactly the same.

The only reason I can think of why the rears would be smaller is that they get much, much more sun. Over 20 years that causes the leather to significantly shrink and tighten making them look tiny in comparison.

Since you have a cabrio you might also consider the front headrests from an e34, e32, or e36. They would work well as cabrio rear headrests because they don't have the piping and have the same stitch as the front headrests.

          Here's a pic of e34 headrests:

Paladian they were the same shape but smaller and the foam was perfect. Not sure if BMW actually sold a different rear headrest for cabrios. TD nice interior.

Well you may be right Kevin, perhaps they did have a smaller version for cabrios. All of the rear headrests I've removed have come from 4 door sedans originally.

Either way Paladin, I think you'll be fine with any style headrest as far as interference issues go. So you won't have any problem with using the front e30 headrests if that was your concern.

That interior belongs to "Vazbro" on S14.net. Amazing car.
Here's his Build thread, take a look.

                            Alex,
He did a good job on the install as you did with yours. Your panels will look factory and hopefully you will have red seat belts..........
