    Is this steering wheel usable?

I was trolling the local JY and found this 3-spoke wheel in an 87 5-series. It was a 7 or 8 out of 10, condition-wise.

I asked them to pull it (they don't let you pull it yourself) and went to get it yesterday.

They showed me what they did upon removel (they did not have the key to unlock it).

    Pics:

So can it be used with the part of the ring cracked off? What about the mangling that they did to the back side?

They offered me my money back, IF that is the turn signal cancel. I'd like to have and use the wheel, if it will work.

That's the signal cancel. I'd just file it all the way down. If that's the only problem with it, you should be fine.

Same thing happened when I got my mt1 from a yard, If you have another wheel, you can take that ring off and use it.

I found that real OEM sells the ring for $12, or I can pull the ring off of my old wheel, as it lists the same p/n for both.

        Sweet.

It sounds like they just forcefully ripped off the wheel rather than cutting through the lock which takes 20sec with a hacksaw.

Make sure they didn't strip the fine spline threads

The fine threads still look pretty good.

Realoem doesn't sell anything, but at least gives you the part #s, application and rough idea of price.
32-33-1-152-896 (slip ring) is available new from Tischer BMW in MD (getbmwparts.com) for $8.20.
That part was used on the wheels for the E24, E28, E30, E32 and E34.

Yeah, I never thought about that...

Thanks for the tip on where to buy. I have not bought from Tischer, but I hear good things about them.

The JY gave me my money back for it, but let me keep the wheel. Not bad.

I have that same wheel original to my 04/85 325e as well as my 04/86 535i. It is considered the "sports wheel" and has a 385mm diameter and fine splines. It was also used in the E24, E32 and E34 models.
