    Seat alternatives for E30 318is ?

    Hey all,

Pulled tha passenger seat out of my 318is today to change the seat belt reciever and almost broke my damn back because its so heavy, well not really but they are damn heavy.

What seats can i fit into my car that are sporty, much lighter and NOT bucket seats (uncomfortable), possibly something from a different make of car ? Or even from a newer model BMW. I am hoping for something that will match up the the holes already so i dont have to get news ones drilled and threaded.

    All suggestions welcome

      You want non-bucket seats?

ok let me explain a bit better, i dont want full buckets like race buckets. Semi-buckets are ok, the ones you can at least get out of without to much effort and they need to be reclineable because my car is a coupe

You should feel how much those seats weight with a bunch of motors attached to them (the same ones came powered on my 87 M6).

I'm working on a set of Recaro SRDs (replaced by Recaro Speeds) right now. Once the sliders are attached, there will be some weight savings, but I wouldn't say monumental.

The Recaros made for the E21s are very light and a common seat upgrade for E30s. Again, once the sliders are on you'll save some weight.

But neither seat will take the E30 sliders without either an adapter, or a different set of sliders. Of course, you may find seats with the right sliders on them.

If you really want to save weight, you can get comfortable buckets, and you can get brakets that allow the seat to flip forward for back seat access.

Why don't you just trade your sport seats for my non-sports. They are less aggressive and I have a pair sitting in my living room. Don't think there is much difference in weight though.

I was very suprised at the weight of the seat, but I'd never acutally messed with car seats before.

I think i am going to try and get some e46 sport seats and put them in this summer. My friends tan leather ones look so damn sweet. Does anyone know of a write up about this swap. thanks and sorry for jacking your thread.

Look at Honda s2000 seats. They are badass lookin seats. Im almost possitive they bolt right up with no modification. They are still sport seats. They are affordable, over all just a good choice for a seat replacement. I almost bought a set but I went racing seats instead. Try lookin at Ebay seats. They are all close to 25 pounds, there cheap, and a lot of them are good lookin seats. I am using a set of DAD's and I love them. They are 25 pounds and look really nice. You can use almost any seat you want. You just have to make custom sliders. I have heard of Audi seats working, honda seats, E36 and so on. Hope this helped.

If it weren't for the headrests, those would look awesome in an E30. But as they are now, they would look totally out of place.

I guess I would have to see them in person. They are very cool seats, though. :)

kick around some of the jap importers, and have a look for recaros. you can usually get some cheap, and get rails made up.

heaps lighter than stock, anmd comfy as hell. did a few 8hr drives in them and had no probs
