Everyone keeps saying that, but it's not true. When I finished with mine, I walked all over it with my socks on for about 10 minutes, and it's as soft as it was before. Not only that, I'm going to be using floor mats, and it's not like you're laying on the open areas of your carpet, or sitting in your car barefoot.

It must have been the can you used or how you did it, I "painted" the old original rear speaker shelf once with some off the shelf carpet/fabric paint/dye whatevertheheck and it was dry as shit.

Jean, I've done both and my shelf ended up bad while the carpet ended up excellent. Just like Janderson said. Carpet is a different material of different length which totally affected how well it adhered. :D

Same, my rear deck (which I painted with the same stuff) is very stiff, but on that part, who really cares? The point is, they're totally different material.

I'm in the same boat, did the rear shelf and it loogs good, I really don't have poeple touching the rear shelf...

Carpet is next, we will see how it turns out.

My carpet is temporary until another set of anthracite comes up. But I had to get rid of the tan.

I ended up dying my carpet with some shit at a fabric store. Made the tan go to purple haha. So I ended up using the fabric spray and it turned out MUCH better. I only used 2 cans though since it was already much darker than the tan.

I actually got the anthracite front and rear carpets, they just look different shades from the flash. I think because they came from different factories, the shade is off. The rear section only took 3 days to get in but the front section took about a month and a half. I still want to get the shades correct but I don't know where to find carpet dye in Germany...

BTW, all those dyed carpets look real good! Mine was too molded and wet and nasty to save, that's why I bit the bullet and got a new one.

According to SEM, their Color Coat line is suitable for carpet:

Did mine a couple of weeks ago using a write-up on e30tech. Turned out great. I started out with stained anthracite and ended up with really nice black. Took three cans of Duplicolor but I could've used four.

I painted my rear speaker shelf from tan to black and it turned out great! Trick is to use a shop vac after evrycoat of the fabric paint to get it soft. Spray on a light coat, wait for it to FULLY dry then go over it with a shop vac and spray again. You will end up using more paint this way but when its all done and you vacuum after the last coat the end result is nice and soft and all the loose paint dust is vacuumed up. Cant wait to do my floor carpet!!!
