    ALL this for HOUNDSTOOTH?

    Yep.

So I just parted ways with Dan (M42Technik) after two days of hell.

Dan and his friend Clarence drove 8.5 hours starting at 4 AM Friday to come up and swap out his tan sport interior for a full houndstooth interior.

Full, including carpet, and custom suede headliner from RobS.

I had worked the night before (11p-7a), so I wasn't expecting them until 2 or 3...apparently they made good time :) I met them at my garage around 2:30. At that point we shuffled my 62 friggin E30's and other various cars to get Dan's in one of the bays. The first thing I did was pull the burgundrot car out to make room. In the process, the flourescent light I had hung in the ceiling came crashing down. Sweet. Should have tipped us off that we were in for a fun filled couple of days.

Started tearing into his car, door panels got swapped first, as they were easy and didn't rely on anything else. Then we started stripping his car. Front seats, back seats, rear panels. Since he was doing his headliner, glass came out too. He had fixed glass, so that was a pain in the ass to get out.

Get to about 5 o clock, realize that Bav closes at 5:30. Need b pillars (those broke on the way out, surprise surprise) and the lockstrip clips. Get halfway there, ton of Mem day traffic. Call them beg them to stay open until 535 - they do. We get half of the lockstrips (all they had) and no b pillars.

Get back, one of the 6 torx bolts holding the sunroof gets stripped. So we leave it in and work around the panel (my drill is OOS). Get the rest of the headliner out, start getting the suede one ready. Get it up, realize it's too big/too heavy - fitment needs adjusting. RobS says he can work on it sunday, but Dan needs to leave sat night. No go there.

On to the carpet. By this point we were all fading fast, and just frustrated with all of it. Dan gets the parts car carpet cut out with fairly minimal effort - doesnt even need to disconnect the accel pedal as it's rusted right out of the damn floor. Cuts around the console to easy removal/installation. Padding stays in the parts car (destroyed anyways.)

We call it a night after cutting halfway around the tan existing carpet. Drop them off at the hotel, head to bed.

Started again at 3 PM. Tan carpet comes out, we get the grey in. Goes in with little incident. Dan decides to go fuh raze and leave the headliner out - project for back in Maryland. We also had to reuse his rear tan deck, as I had no available grey ones.

Glass kicks our asses on the way back in. Fingers are bleeding and raw from working the gasket around the edges. Realize that lockstrip is NOT going in without the bav tool - and theyre closed. No lockstrips for the ride home. Side windows go in with some coaxing, but the shadowline trim won't stuff in. Another project for back home. Dan takes his frustration out on the rear panels....leaving two broken clips that I dig out :) I put the rear panels on this time ;) (poor dan).

Rear seat goes in effortlessly. Sunroof tracks arent lining up, and *snap* off goes one of the mounts. One side gets torx'ed in, the rest of the roof gets taped down. Project # 3 for home....

Front seats finally go in, and we call it a day. 10PM we "finish."

The car looks amazing now, with a few minor issues to tend to, but way better than the tan stock interior. Having Dan be as OCD to detail as I am made it hard to cut corners, which was a good thing. Dan just called and let me know the car seems to be holding up - he's made it out of MA into CT, swearing he will never return to the state of MA ever again :)

And he reminds me that we forgot to pack his headliner on the car before he left. Unbelieveable.

    Pics coming later...

Eh...it was a rough time. In the end it was all worth it IMO...a dschwartz mtech 2 front bumper'ed 91 318i with houndstooth....mmm. But, I'm not the one that drove 8.5 hours up, and not the one on the way home with no lockstrips and electrical tape holding my sunroof in ;)

Should have come up, more the merrier!

Sounds like the way all E30 projects seem to go. Glad you guys hacked up Dan's car pretty well. ;)
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Haha, yeah, it does sound like a typical e30 install. :)

Heard you had yourself a little mishap as well, best of luck with that work!

Why exactly did he drive 8 hours to install an interior? I assume he bought it from you?

EDIT: Wow, 10 posts in a row man?

And those damn Asians who leave shits inside the ice cube buckets in hotels.

Yes, I bought the interior from him, and I gave him mine to lower the final price on the Houndstooth. I wanted to have a sort of road trip but dear God it sucked hard.

Its almost over, just that damn headliner...

                And FUCK MASSACHUSETTS COPS.

Yes. This trip was exhausting. I didn't realize how very awful this trip would turn out to be.
                Reminiscing...

                  ha.

took me 45 minutes to install my complete M3 houndstooth9seats, dp's, etc.), with no broken clips, no damage, and no headaches.

                  amatures.
let me know when you're ready to play with the big boys. ;)

                  was it a non-M houndstooth?
                  Below the radar...

Oh you jackoff, you didnt change your headliner. OR your carpet. No amateurs here. Dan jsut got a bit frustrated towards the end, otherwise the HOUNDSTOOTH itself would have gone in without a hitch.

Non-M houndstooth. the ONLY thing keeping it from being mint were the two driver's side bolsters. Dan (im assuming) will be getting them recovered shortly. Along with the isntallation of the headliner, and a new rear shelf :)

removed carpet for complete shampoo prior to install.

headliner installs are best left to the pro's. trust me, BMW headliners suck donkey nuts, as you now know. 8)

It's funny, I remember the GTG over at Rob's last summah, and you said the same thing about the headlinah. The REMOVAL isn't all that bad, provided the friggin sunroof comes out (I HATE TORX.) But the install, yes, I'd leave to the pros. Too bad...that suede was SO nice. Just gonna have to be altered a bit for fitment. Them's the breaks with a prototype.. :)

Did you cut around the heaterbox?

Yes, you made 10 posts in a row in this forum. Most of which should have been in various tech forums instead of here.

Anyways, I hope that suede holds up well. It should considering it doesn't get direct sunlight, but I'm not sure. He made me some suede e-brake and shift boots and they have turned brown and look like crap within 6 months. Not too happy about that. He just sells alcantara now.

The reason I posted everything in here is because I never seem to get any responses in the other forums. And if I do, they're a few days or even a week later.

Not sure why, but it just seems to work like that.

The headliner wont see much sun...so he should be ok. And it was treated with UV spray too...sorry to hear about the shift boot and ebrake handle.
