Seeing my car had 42k miles confirmed at a dealer in 1999 and bought it with 72k miles in 2006, third owner (2nd was a seller), I HIGHLY doubt there was any swaps of anything going on.

I removed the OEM shocks, even, and put them in a bag for proof.

The car even came with the "Ultimate Driving Machine" cassette tape and head cleaner etc.

The spare tire was the original Perelli P6 with all the rubber tits still on it, and minty bottlecap.

The later airbag equipped e30 have different stalks from the earlier model. So if you swap your airbag wheel out for an mtech wheel, your stalks will be rather close to your wheel. To correct this, youd have to swap the stalks out for the earlier ones, or try to bend them.

Probably a good safeguard against my already "spirited" driving habits lol
Already been getting points: Don't need to PoPo-5-0 on my tail again

Regardless.. I think my car already has non-airbag stalks. I swapped in an OBC stalk from a non-airbag car, and the distance from my airbag wheel was EXACTLY the same.. Weird
We'll really only know the truth until I buy my wheel though, so until then.. cheers lol

i did swap the stalks. i supposedly bought a pre-airbag set but it still feels too close so I'm hoping to get some measurements

And if you choose not to correct this, your pretty much riding with 1' clearance as stated above? I think I'd get used to it and prefer it after a while as well, but I just wanna know exactly what I'm dealing with before I have my wheel

Ya, it was weird at first but I got used to it. I actually prefer it now since there is just enough room so that my fingers are very close to grazing the stalks but not quite. Makes for some quick wiper action lol.
