Insight on this unusual gauge cluster

I stumbled upon this listing and it confused me. I've never seen gray faces or needles positioned like that. I'd like to hear your thoughts. Does anyone have any insight?

Wouldnt be that difficult to make with custom gauge faces. That tach isn't particularly useful.

Looks like they printed new faces and moved the needles to the upright position. Looks kinda cool, in a different sort of way.

I spotted those awhile ago and wondered the same damn thing.

Doesn't make sense for racing etc., right?

Then I was ducking my head down to see the top of the speedo through my momo steering wheel, and I realized the important parts of the upsidedown gauges would be visible with a small-diameter wheel.

I don't know if that's why the cluster was done that way, but it was all I could come up with.

That's exactly what I was thinking too. They probably have a small diameter wheel.

Regardless of wheel diameter, track cars don't have non-visible gauges. That tach is terrible for any racing purposes.

I'm interested in how custom gauge faces could be made. They sell white faces on eBay but never seen gray ones. How would you print them, since aren't some parts translucent to let the backlight through (noob question)?

No backlight on e30s. The white parts would just need to be reflective.

Didn't say it was a racing setup. Clearly a street setup.

This thing is sexy. Ill bet there would be some money in it if someone were
able to duplicate it. Currently going to 255.
