mtech II replacing airbag steering wheel

    Hello
can anyone fill me in on the conversion of a 90 ix w/airbag to a
    mtech II wheel .
I took the wheel off placed the mtech on ...
then the gap of about .750 of an inch is between the steering post
plastic and the back of the steering wheel, also the wiper and signal
lever are too close . Do I need a spacer and what can cover up the gap.

    thanks

I put an Mtech 1 on my 90 ix, and used this spacer. The only drawback to the swap, is the turn signals/wiper arms will sit close to the wheel. Also i disconnected any/every SRS plug associated w/ the SRS....to get rid of the light. I believe they were all orange plugs if memory serves me right.

btw u can't really use a spacer to gap the distance between the steering wheel itself and the signal stalks, or else your horn won't work and your steering wheel won't lock.

thanks for the info, and the e30tech thread that explains more
I'll check real oem on parts available and see if the stalks can be changed.
or may have to resort to plan "B" bend the stalks
            thanks Guys big help

user spacer, bend stalks, or switch to non-airbag stalks.
I don't always wreck cars, but when I do I wreck them into trees.

Can you bend the stalks while on the steering column or do you need to remove them for better access/leverage?

I bent mine in 5 minutes while on the car. Take a pair of channel lock pliers, wrap the teeth with a shop towel so they don't gouge the stalks and find the area of the stock where they are already bent and bend them more. It doesn't take much to gain the clearance needed.
