Fixed back race buckets without rollbar, how many do it, be honest

I ran a pair in one of my M3 coupes, comfortable enough for me and took almost 100# off the car, but obviously if I rolled the car I was at higher risk without a rollbar.

Now I'm looking for new seats for te E30 on a budget and I can get a much more quality fixed back bucket for the same price as a mediocre reclinable.

I did it on the M5. Don't drive like an idiot, and rolling over will be a very low odd of happening.







At the same time, don't go cheap on seats, when your 17 and your body is made of jello and magic, it's not a big deal, but it will eventually catch up to you.

slam your car and you make rolling over almost impossible. change your suspension geometry like crazy and put the center of gravity axis under ground haha (which is possible)

slamming your car wont prevent it from rolling. Shit happens quickly. low or not.

I had a nice set of seats in my AE86 and after a couple of years it pulled the bolts thru the floor and almost ended tragicly.

if you are going to have the car on a good suspension and sticky tires as a track car go with a cage.

plate the floor and read up on seatbelt placement...

i was curious about this too. i was thinking about getting some recaros for my vert but thought it would look to racer. and if i put a cage it'll look like a pickup truck IMO. i think ima either just get reclinable recaros or keep it classic and get all new leather. an advice?

Caged verts are awesome though.

Agreed on buying nice seats, I went cheap a couple years ago mounting F1 spec seats, they were like $399 a pair delivered. They were light, cheap, stiff, and great for a couple months then the cheap appeared.

It is my understanding that running a fixed bucket seat with an ASM harness creates the danger. Without a harness, your body can still slide forward in the seat in case of a rollover.

A proper set up would be a harness bar with a minimum of 5 point harness. The 5 point will prevent you from 'submarining' or 'torpedoing' out of the harness in the event of a crash. The harness bar will set the harness at the proper height and secure them. Skipping a step or going with super sick Takata harnesses will be the end of you.

But only having a harness bar and not a rollbar with an ASM harness like that means in the event of the rollover, your spine might end up supporting the weight of the car. No bueno.
