vert vs non vert sport seat ?

I have a tan leather pair of e30 vert sport seats and a pair of black vinyl non-vert sport seats. there both in similar conditon only damage is on left drivers bolsters on both pairs. My plan is to re-do one front set and my crap rear seats in black leatherseats.com e30 vert skins and i am wondering if the new vert skins will fit on either vert and non-vert sportseats or is the foam different or something strange? If the new skins will fit on either ill just put both up for sale and just sell whichever set gets a better offer. Seats are over an hour away at families house so cant look at them myselves to solve this.

Also being that both sets are in similar condition 7or8/10, im assuming that the leather verts seats are worth more? What would each pair go for usually?

    Thanks for any help.

All e30 sport seat upholstery skins are interchangeable regardless of what model it came from. Also e28 535is/M5 sport seat upholstery is compatible as well. Sometimes you may need to make a cut in the upholstery to accommodate the different handle locations, but that is hidden by the back panel.

e30 sport seats can vary in price a lot depending on condition of upholstery and mechanics. From the sound of it I'd say your seats are worth around $180 - $200/set. Without pics though, it's hard to say.

Most likely the seats will need to be refreshed and have all the mechanisms cleaned and lubricated, along with any dead seat shocks replaced. So if the functionality of the seats are in poor condition then that would affect the price.

If condition is the same then the black vertical stitching sport seats will be worth more than the tan convertible sport seats. Black is much more popular and in demand. Tan convertible sport seats are pretty common

Cabrio skins have to go on Cabrio cushions to accommodate the steel rods that tie the leather to the cushion. M cushions have the same side to side seams so should be interchangeable with a Cabrio.

Yes you can technically swap the skin/foam combo together from any sport seat to any sport seat, the bolsters are all the same and despite small differences in the frame rails they will swap as well. Although

Ive never personally fondled an M seat I do have a Cabrio seat sitting on my desk about to be taken apart. Don't ask :-)

the sport seat, M seats and convertible sport sears are all the same hardware for front. only the sport seats center foam is different and the way the listing wires are run are different. Mtech-vert and M3 seats are identical even in stitching, the only difference is that there are plastic stoppers in the vert seats so they dont recline too far.

the rear seats are very different between M/sport and even more so different with a convertible. sport and M rear seats hardware is interchangeable; however, a convertible seat is about 2+ inches narrower. the stitching between the Mtech convertible and M3 seats is identical, but sport seat and normal convertible seats is very different.

89AlpineM3, only your rear seat was stitched differently correct(non-mtech2 cars). the fronts should be identical.

I hate to nitpick but that's not correct info. The foam cushions for the front sport seats is the same regardless of whether the upholstery is vertical stitched or horizontal stitched. There's only one listing wire per cushion and it runs horizontal even on vertical stitched seats. I got both types of sport seats here & part numbers on foam are the same.

That's true that there are stoppers on cabrio seats. For anyone concerned about them the stoppers are easily removed and then the seat will recline like any other sport seat. After that the only difference between cabrio and M3 seats is the location of the tilt forward handle. Cabrio is lower, M3 is higher. It's a negligible difference unless you're set on making the car 100% original.
