Re-dye Steering Wheel?

Hi all. I just got a used Mtech II steering wheel. Can I reyed it? Have anyone done this? What's the best dye for it?

I used vinyl/fabric dye out of a spray can. I have dyed a couple and its always looked 10 times better and never comes off as long as you let it dry overnight.

FYI, spray can "dyes" are actually just paint. A real leather die like Fiebings will look better and last a lot longer. However, it is a significant amount more work to use leather dye over the spray can stuff.

Too much work and hard to be consistent, which is why I prefer aerosols. I have been using my wheel for a few months and it still looks brand new.

Simply put, a through cleaning, then dying, then sealing with some kind of sealer (otherwise the dye will rub off on your hands).

My experience was that applying the VHT leather dye (spray can) to a throroughly cleaned and de-greased leather steering wheel, the color still flaked off a year later.

Good information - I will try SEM next time. For me, VHT came loose from well-prepped seats and steering wheel without much of a fight.

I've had great success with this stuff for everything from consoles to steering wheels and even a tire that was dried from the sun.

Maybe replace the leather? Check out Alan Gun Leather. I bought a replacement skin from him for my standard sport steering wheel. Although getting it took a very long time, it is really nice and was worth the effort.
