I am trying to put my car an a bit of a diet and im starting with the interior. I am wanting to know if the M3 rear seats are lighter than standard E30 seats and if so will they fit in a standard E30?

I have a 86 325eta i am doing a lot of work to it soon invluding a 24v swap. I just want to make it lighter wile still being derivable and not annoying.Float like a cadillac sting like a Bimmer!:)

Any amount of lightening you do to the interior will not be noticeable. Trunk tar is probably worth it, but otherwise, it's pointless.Comment

this^ if it id going to be your dd there is no point in trying to make your car lighter. taking out all of the tar you might lose 100 or so lbs but not enough to feel a differenceComment

Install 318 interior carpet (15-20lbs)
Remove trunk tar (45 lbs)
Install fixed bucket seats (50lbs)
Run a mazda miata or motorcycle battery (15-30lbs)
You could also take a cloth back seat and give it a quick once over with fiberglass resin. Cut away the now hard fabric from the frame and cushions and make some aluminum mounting bracket. For best results and an additional coat and sand down and give it a smooth finish. Then give it a couple coats of vinyl dye or get some fabric to match your race seats and install with adhesive spray.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

- you can remove the carpet,
- remove the sound deadening to drop some weight
- then reinstall the carpet.

Wedge Engineering seat slider bracket.
no carpet
no sound deadening
no rear seats
no rear parcel shelf
no rear speakers
no trunk tar
