Not an e30 but my previous car was a 318ti. During an audio install I had the entire interior gutted at one point and still needed to drive to and from school. It was fun for about a day and then it got really old.

My feet slipped on the floor when it rained. Extremely loud. It was a little different having the whole interior (other than the dash) stripped but still, I couldn't imagine dailying a car without carpet. Especially if I wasn't tracking/autoxing it to see some sort of benefit.

Don't do what's "easy." Fix your rust and either clean your carpet or source a new one. You'll regret wasting your time with the bed liner very quickly.

I pulled the carpet in my old mk2 and hated dailying it. It's really hard to explain, but the tinnyness made the car feel overly raw and cheap. You lose that "thunk" when you close the doors, and the solid feel over road and bumps.
