    Please explain this diagram

Ok, so I need to replace the panel under the steering wheel - but I don't understand what appears to be this dead-simple diagram from realoem:

    http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...11&hg=51&fg=30

What is the difference between part 1 and 2? I know I only removed one panel but it was so butchered that I can't even compare it to either of the 2 parts. Also, where does #3 come in? Once again the PO removed/butchered these panels to the point where even a BMW mechanic wouldn't recognize them ;) let alone me, a loving but fresh E30 owner...

    Please explain.

#2 says, For vehicles with Air bag.

Thus, #1 is for non-air bag models.

Manufacturers will put multiple options into one parts diagram.

2, 3, 4 are on airbag models and number 1 is for early models. 2 and 3 replace number 1.

Just thought I would also add, either setup will work regardless of whether you have an airbag or not. I personally prefer the look of the non-air bag panel.

I have huge feet, so I run no panel.
