    The mythical automatic tempertaure control

Has anyone actually seen this system in person?

I recently found that it is option code 535, known as ELEKTRONISCHE TEMPERATURREGELUNG within the build sheet.

From what I can see in this pdf here http://www.ow.no/archive/eba/1463.PDF it looks like the fascia isn't changed, it's just the electronic gubbins, specifically 64111385970 that is changed, which sound about right, when looking at this picture here:

No real question here, just thought I'd add some knowledge to the pool and see if anyone else had some more info to add!

Was this even available to the US market?

I believe It's standard on e28's, so might have carried over on a few models. Never seen it in an e30 myself.

I've seen a few of those on E30's but it might have just been the fascia. Saw a couple at the junkyard too. The numbers are nice but didn't consider it a big deal. I just figured they added on the approx air temp on the existing dial. So since it's not digital yet "electronic" are they saying that instead of the air mix cables it sets the desired temp electronically with an actuator? Seems to me, the air mix cables accomplish the same thing???

The difference is it will automatically adjust the temperature of the air coming from the vents so that the interior temp stays at whatever you set it at. It may or may not have fan speed control as well, I don't know.

Ahhh so it is climate control. Of course you'd need working AC for it to work. So there must also be a temp sensor for feedback. Maybe it goes where the mysterious vent hole is on all of the fascias.

I have that facia with the numbers...have never seen another in person yet.

I have heard rumors about this for years, would love to learn more.

I know the only difference in my 87' iS was the facia itself, there were no other bits related to the HVAC system involved.
