Aligning your e30s door so they dont need to be slammed shut

Recently bought an e30 and this issue has been around since day 1. The driver side needs a good slam to shut the door. The passenger side is not like that all, fully closes without a slam. Just a light push. Recently got into my buddies e30 and his doors shut like a new car. No extreme effort needed.

When I got my e30 the driver window was smashed in and replaced. Dont know if that has anything to do with it. I tried to grease the hinges and latches. Even tried loosening the latch so that it can self align when i close it. Did'nt really work.

How do people align the doors so they dont need to be slammed shut?

Trial and Error. Adjust the bracket on the body where the latch engages until it becomes easier. Make sure there's no serious damage to the door area that may prevent the door from closing properly. Check the latch for damage.

I've found a trick for aligning the doors (I've done this on my e28's so it should work on an e30...I don't know why I even come on here). Loosen the latch on the cars frame so that it is held in place but you can move it around with some force. Then close the door and push on it so that it is in the position you want (the latch should be able to move with force) then pull the handle and gently open the door, then tighten down the latch. You can align the door in a couple minutes this way.

I recently replaced my door seals, and now it takes a good slam. Is this typical with new seals until they age a bit?

Use the old 4x4 under the door and a jack trick. Works every time.
