Cabrio Rear View Mirror Challenge

After finally fixing my brake check light (yes I soldered a jumper on the pcb in the 3rd braske light) I decided to secure my loose check panel and in the process I knocked my rear view mirror off. It has been previously repaired and Im fairly certain something is missing.

If anyone has a pic of what it should look like inside I would appreciate it and Im also interested in which mirrors make a good replacement. Keep in mind that being a Cabrio the mirror glues to the windshield.

That is all there is to it. The metal base is glued to the windshield, then the mirror is put on at an angle and turned into place.

That's the exact glue I picked up at Autozone ( for a mere $3.99) but the clip in the mirror body that snaps to the medallion is missing. I'm told its toast and that I should look for an e36 mirror since the medallions are identical and the e36s all have glue on mirrors. Otherwise I'm looking for an e30 Cabrio mirror which is not so common.

I was re-gluing the vinyl so the check anel would stay in place and so went to swivel the mirror out of the way and it let go. I hope my brakes are more secure.

Have you considered modding a maplight to fit your vert?

My vert didn't come with a rear view mirror, I wanted to keep an oem look, so it was a no brainer for me. Otherwise, shouldn't be too hard to find a complete oem vert mirror, or "upgrade" to an e36 or Z3 mirror. They all glue to the windshield. Good luck.

I am looking at my options. I may grab the Cabrio mirror Ive been offered just so I have one since they are only a twist to remove. I was at pullapart and while none of the 5-6 vintage bmws I looked at had a mirror there was a 5 and 7 with the same medallion still glued to the glass.

Which cars does have the double map light, auto dim and anti glare and if someone could post pics of good replacement options it would save me from getting arrested in a parking lot for casing cars :-)

I replaced mine with an e36 rear view mirror that is glued in to the windshield. I used the locktite rear view mirror adhesive.

I replaced mine with an "autozone special", and I've never looked back (bad pun).

I get that there a range of glue on replacement options. It would be interesting if we could see pics posted along with what features they have and what car they came out of.

Here's the one I had in my old car.



Came out of a late 90's Deville I think.

Current car has one from a toyota matrix. There's really only two manufacturers of those mirrors, I have had good luck with the Gentex mirrors myself.

Oh, and the auto dim is an excellent feature in a vert, you will be glad you upgraded.

Now that I have a replacement and see that there are just 3 pieces of spring steel in the stem head in a triangle layout I removed all the JB Weld and realized that my old mirror was not broken at all.

It seems that some d&^%e glued the medallion upside down so the only option to mate the triangle on the medallion to the mirror was to JB it.

How clever is that lol
