I think the trunk release is used if you are already in the car. Say you have something in the trunk and arrive home. You pop the trunk from inside, get out, lock the door and get your stuff, then close the trunk. -
I hate having them on the door - I have to take my focus off the road and mess with the buttons (I primarily drive with my left hand, since the right hand is also used for shifting).
I also hate those stupid trunk release latches inside the car. How retarded are those things? So, you want to get into your trunk. First, get out your keys, and unlock your door. then pull the stupid lever hidden next to the drivers seat. now, walk back your open trunk.
or.. just use the key to unlock the trunk and open the damn thing right there. which makes more sense?Leave a comment:

Haha cool, I prefer it, I was just wondering if there was a specific reason. I was sitting in my uncles e90 m3 and his were on the left just like most cars now, so it brought my attention.Leave a comment:

I've been wanting to move mine to the e-brake console, I'm tired of stretching my hand around the shifter to reach two at a time. Gotta get some donor pigtails to splice in though.Leave a comment:

Because if they weren't there, BMW would have had to put cup holders there.Leave a comment:

LHD and RHD consoles aren't the same though. They angle differently.Leave a comment:

Cheaper to make the cars for right and left hand drive markets. Both markets get the same console and door panels.Leave a comment:
