I've said this before and I'll say it again for you 13'ers, Olive Oil will keep your dash moist and supple.
My e30's have yet to crack in the past, present, & hopefully future as a result.
disclaimer: using it will attract a lot of dust, but what's easier to replace; a dash or a towel to wipe it clean?
will this let me cook my eggs on my dash during the summer?
might as well...
but seriously, it is an interesting idea. Wonder if it works ...

I'm going to pull the trigger on a NEW dash in the spring. The new ones are made of a different material, and they won't crack like to originals. Is $950 a lot of money? Yep, but I cannot effing stand the cracks in the dash. They let the whole interior down.
Never heard of the olive oil thing, but I used a window visor all summer long When the weather got cold, instant 8" long crack overnight. FML‘Tis by the grace of God that my cars run!Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

Olive oil does work. I've got a crackless dash in my house, it's supple and nice again. My current dash in my car has one crack but it gets a weekly olive oil lathering. leaves a nice smell in the car as well.Comment

that's why I'm hesitant to drop the $$ on a crack free one... it'll crack eventually. I'll stick with my slightly cracked one, it doesn't look like the grand canyon yet so it'll do.
Gonna give the olive oil a try as well, haven't heard of that before.Comment

There's these things called "dash caps". They look really good surprisingly, you should check it out.
