    Shift Knob WTF??

I have searched on here and I have looked in my owners manual. I am trying to get my shift knob off and it will not move. I tried putting it in reverse and pulling out and up...and all the other gears. I am 275 lbs and am not the weakest...trying out for ohio state football and have been training a shit ton. I have looked for a retaining screw that was keeping it on..nothing. I tried dropping the top putting my feet on each side of the floor and pulling..nothing still. I am about to cut the F*er off...no joking. The only thing that I can see is different is my brothers shiftboot can be pushed apart from the knob and mine can't. I don't know if this helps. Please anyone with any advice help??

    Thanks

It takes a decent amount of force to pop it off. I about popped myself in the jaw.

Are you sure it's the factory knob?

as long as its factory it just yanks straight up. and as previously informed watch out for smashing your face or busting a rear view mirror

Hopefully none of the previous owners though glueing it on there was a good idea :)

Try cutting the nob itself without cutting the lever. If you cut it into enough pieces then you can just break them off.

            I dunno, just brainstorming.

Swing wild, brake later, don't apologize.

This is what I am thinking it might be. I am putting my new short shifter in so I am really anxious to get this off. I have pulled straight up...really hard...and nothing. I might have to cut it off but then I am going to wait to do it until I get my new knob.

Thanks for all the help..any more please keep sharing.

I also think it is factory but the boot doesn't part from it...like it is under the knob..I don't know.

If you are putting a SSK in then why don't you just leave the nob on, unhook the lever from underneath the car, and remove them all as one piece?

Then you can put a new nob on with the new lever.

                      mass doesnt equal strength.

Just because you're a big boy and can block, doesnt mean you've got muscles there champ...

                      its ok that you're weak.
I'd just go punch youself in the face, get a bloody nose, and pay the local shop to remove the knob for you. Then you dont miss out on the fun, and still get it taken off.

                      Cheers,

I broke my windshield taking one out. The back of my head came up with the knob, and the glass isn't meant to take hits from that direction.:giggle:

Take a picture of it, we'll tell you if it's stock or not.

I can hardly get my e46 knob off of my lever... I gave myself a bloody nose last time.

Instead of pulling up, try twisting the knob one way then the other. It should break the plastic (if it is plastic) clips inside the knob that attach to the shifter.
