I really commend you on your efforts, but I don't believe in the whole CONCEPT of cupholders in general. The reason Germans can't do cupholders is because they HATE the fact that Americans want them, so they don't put much effort designing something they don't like. Ask most Europeans, and they'll agree that drinks belong OUTSIDE the car. Why not put toaster ovens in cars while you're at it? Besides, cupholders mess up the interior lines of the 95% of cars that don't have round shapes in their dashboards.
But I must admit that as much as I disagree with the idea, you did well. Very good execution.
Just my 0.02
In return I get about 50 ashtrays I don't need.
Saab - I know they're not German - has some of the best cupholders I've ever seen in a car. I make an effort to goto their section at the autoshow just so I can mess with the cupholders.
The E38 has awful front holders. It's located in relatively the same location, and you can't put anything in there. It'll hit the panel, or it'll fall out.
BMWs can't do cup holders. Glad you got something sorted.
damn right, the e39 was pretty much as bad too. The most badass ones are the saab holders that retract into nothing. Especially their new style. Id put one of those on my e30
So true!! I think EVERYBODY smokes in Europe, so it makes sense for them. But here in the States, the people who do smoke in their cars actually just let the ashes fly out the window. At least that's what I've seen.
Same...Got the car with the armrest cupholder thing. I couldn't shift with that thing in the way, sold i sold it. Anyways, Since my thread happens to be in the DIY section, I'll just write a how to make it for nubs who cant figure out.
