Carpet advice?

Wow that's a killer deal. I spent about $100 in material alone, and then had to shape cut and sew everything myself, so this is a very viable option.Comment

I have this in my car, which for reference is mostly a track car. I needed carpet to be SCCA class legal, and due to a leaky heater core my original carpet was shot.
Synopsis: you get what you pay for. It's "molded", but not well; the dimensions are off. For me the foot pad had to be cut to fit the pedals because of the mold. You couldn't go the other way because the floor pan part of the mold would be in the back seat area. The sound deadening is thin and flimsy, and doesn't provide much insulation. This was great for me as it's lighter than stock, but if it's a street only car then it might leave a bit to be desired. Overall, if it was supposed to be a clean daily, I'd try to find something of better quality. Since I just needed something in there as a place holder it worked well enough for me.88 325is - S52 powered

Glad to be of service. I think there's another review elsewhere (dude put it in an M3 he was restoring IIRC), but he wasn't too in depth. His final verdict was the same, but there wasn't a reason. At the time I wasn't really building a track car, but ended up working well. For a quick glance it looks pretty good, but if the seats went forward and the rear seats were used it wouldn't work. There is a fair amount of extra carpet behind the seats due to trimming being awkward.88 325is - S52 powered

Definitely lighter, but I don't have any numbers for comparison. My old carpet came out in pieces and was still soaked with coolant even 6 months after the heater core was fixed, and it went straight into the trash. The lack of sound deadening reduces weight, and I don't think it's quite as plush as OEM carpet. I have a spare e30 in the driveway right now, I'll try to at least check out the threads and feel when I get home to compare the two.88 325is - S52 powered

I don't even care how it feels, but I'm in the same boat, looking for light carpet just as a placeholder.Comment

It'll work for that, just don't expect it to be a direct fit. It takes a bit of work and trimming to get it to sit in there decently. I'd guess it weighs maybe 1/2 as much as OEM, there really isn't much sound deadening. If you were looking for the lightest you could go, you could get some subwoofer box carpet and lay it down with some adhesive. Someone in the interior/gauge setup thread in the Track/Autox subforum did that with pretty good results.
I tried to use some 3M adhesive spray on some extra carpet I got to cover the rear area for appearances, but it didn't stick at all. I ended up running some fuel lines through the cabin and just ditched that entirely.88 325is - S52 powered
