Did the Previous owner relocate buttons?

So I bought this car a little over a month ago. Its going to be at least a year or two project that I am slowly working on. I am finding more and more things lately that the PO did to the car that are strange. He was a big car stereo person (but I dont think things were installed overly well). Anyway my flashers and rear defrost buttons are in the center console not above the stereo like most cars I have seen. I am pretty sure BMW didnt change this for 1990, but I could be wrong. Can you guys confirm that these buttons are in the wrong place?

Thanks, thats what I thought, I have not pulled out the head unit yet, I am afraid to see why they would need to relocate them lol!

the PO may have had a flip up single din stereo and relocated the buttons for that purpose. I have one and I have to fold it back in if I want to access my hazards or defrost.

Yea I called the PO, at one time he had an equalizer about the stereo so he relocated.

I actually like that area for those buttons. I'd put them more forward and closer together but still pretty neat.

Im undecided if I will move them back. I am redoing the entire interior, so I probably will.
