    Possible Custom Cluster?

Has anyone on here thought about making the normal instrument cluster into a semi custom project. Using all new aftermarket gauges mostly overlaid I know it sounds stupid but just a question.

You can check with Bavarian Restorations, I just got my cluster redone by them. I went more classic but they can do just about anything. I added Oil Temp and Volt meter.

I know their base is $320 is a full restore, not sure what that entails though

Really depends on the options, mine was around $600 for everything if remember correctly. That includes full refurb of the cluster, complete cleanup and solder of board, new batteries, new lighting, new gears in the ODO, fixed my brokn clips, new bulbs, gauge rings, new coding and raising my tach to 8000 rpm, Alpina strip, volt and oil temp gauges.

You can do it all or go alacart, if your cluster is in good shape you can just have them add the small parts and its much cheaper. Since I am doing a full restore on my car I wanted it like new.

Yea I was more so talking about starting blank slate and actually buy all new gauges including speedo and tac. cutting out a small sport for all the warning lights and obo but pretty much not using anything original. Im not going classic with my build at the moment.

you guys actually don't have to pay $320 for all that. They sell those rpm decal and cluster rings for everyone. So buy it and do it yourself for way cheaper. Just letting you know.

Thats what I said, the $320 is not for the decals and rings. The 320 is for a complete refurb of the cluster, new odo gears, completely resoldered electronics, batteries lights, respraying the black, cleaning up the glass, etc, while its a little pricey its not just some decals, there is decent amount of labor involved. You are basically getting a brand new cluster.

The main reason for this thread is because my tach only goes up to 5k and im doing the 2.5 head swap and my new redline with be around 7 how hard would it be to just change the face to the 7k tach would I have to recalibrate the tach and if so how may I go about doing that thanks for the help.

change the tach to the I one. I am doing a cluster now for my turbo project. ill keep it updated in my build thread. I am going 2 5/8 speedo and tach, 2 1/16 volt, oil, fuel, boost, coolant. trying to keep the original turn signal and high beam indicators. I will put a 1/8" aluminum sheet above the original face. I gutted an extra cluster and cut all the SI board and other indicators out of the bottom to gain a little more room.
Looking for late model fogs, E39 Fog lights, cool cheap 17 5x120 wheels.

I had my tach changes to 8k, you can go alway the way up to 9k. 8k requires new coding plug.

So if I just take out my 5k tac and put in the "I" 7k tach there is nothing else i would have to do?
