driver's knee bolster under steering wheel

does anyone know whether the trim (disguising) panel under the steering wheel from a pre-airbag e30 works on an airbag e30 ...

i'm hoping they're interchangeable without clearance issues behind the panel ... i think the only difference is the dense foam knee bolster layer that was added the same year airbag wheels came into play ... can anyone confirm or deny ... thanks in advance

Will it work? sure, but they are different shapes to accommodate the steering column angle. Airbag cars have more angle so the knee panel cut out is shallow. Then there's the matter of the airbag panel using screws and being 2 pcs vs the early using quarter turn screws and being 1pc. In short, they aren't really interchangeable but can be made to work. Just go with the one designed for your car.

I'm using an airbag bolster in a non-airbag car and it does not work well. If you want to trade, I'm completely for it. I'll have to look at it closer but it's in pretty close to perfect condition.
