To those of you who have aftermarket seats ( pic on page 2 )

How much have custom brackets for aftermarket steats run you?

Also, for 4pt harness, I hear that you need to get a roll bar to have proper use of the 4pt harness.

Anyone help me out with some info because seats is something I'm still not sure how it works.

    Thanks guys,
    Erick

    Depends what seats you get.

I have a Sparco Corsa for my driver's seat - it came with "universal" Sparco side mount brackets. They can be easily made to fit the stock E30 seat locations, provided you have a Dremel and a grinding bit ;) - it's not too much work, all you have to do is "oval out" two of the holes, to get the extra distance required for the stock bolts to work.

And for the passenger, I have a Corbeau Forza - it is mounted on Corbeau brackets that are made specifically for the E30 - they went straight on in a matter of minutes. Easy peasy.

Further questions on either of these seats? Let me know.

The Forza itself was $220 - the brackets were $78.50, as I recall.

Go to www.racing-seats-usa.com --- they're out of central Florida, bunch of good people there - they don't charge shipping when you buy a seat ;)

And, since a couple people have asked, I have a mismatched pair of seats because --- I wanted a nice seat for the driver (me), and I wanted a cheap FIA seat that'll take a 5- or 6-pt harness, for the passenger - the only time the passenger seat is in the car is for taking friends on a li'l joyride, or if I go out to a DE.

Hmmm... guess I'm not getting away from the shipping issue. I'm going to check out Corbeau's local dealer to see if I can get the brackets off them for the same 80 bucks. Thanks for the help.

Yes you should use a cage for a harness, For street use a harness is stupid. I have the harness in because its too much work to take in and out but never use it on the street. I have it bolted to the harness bar of the cage. A general rule is nothing less than 45 degrees off the horizontal of your shoulders, the less the better. Otherwise you can cause spinal damage. Another reason on the harness without the cage no no rule is the harness allows less movement, on the event that the roof is caving in you may not be able to move out of the way with the harness like you could a standard issue car belt. I also reinforced the piss out of the harness underneath the chassis with stainless steel straping. Dont buy the 'tuner' harness that are made to bolt into your back seats, those are a waste of money and probably are more dangerous than your regular seatbelt.

speaking of seatbealts, the Corbeau bracket comes with a slot to attach the driver's seatbelt lock.... the thing you attach the seatbelt to. I'm asking that because when I remove the seat, it looks like the seat belt fastner is coming off with it.

any light on this subject low level?

              Thanks in advance

I had already sold my stock seats, including the seat belt receivers, when I bought my Corbeau Forza  - yeah - dumb.

So I had to head to a wrecking yard, and picked up a pair of E30 front seat belt receivers - they were just the receivers on the flexible stick-thingy, with the li'l loop at the end where the bolt goes through. You just bolt 'em to the Corbeau bracket - real easy.

I'm tellin' you - if you're gonna buy a Corbeau or a Sparco seat, call the guys at www.racing-seats-usa.com --- the free shipping will include shipping the brackets, and anything else you buy at the time.

While you should have a cage/ roll bar when you use harnesses in case of a roll over, there are a harnesses (DOT approved for street use) that bolt in to the stock seat belt locations front and rear. Schrotth designs the Rallye 3 and Rallye 4 to be DOT approved with no harness bar and will not snap your spine in an accident like the cheap harnesses. But no matter what harness you run, in the case of the roof collapsing in a roll over, you can get crushed since it will hold you upright in the seat.

                  www.evolutionsports.com for the harnesses.

For aftermarket seat brackets, I am using the Speedware motorsports E30 bracket with the Recaro universal slider ($100 each) www.speedwaremotorsports.com

E30 seats have been tested to withstand the 45deg angle necessary to install a schroth rallye 4. in a rollover i personally guarantee you will not have the strength or timing to move out of the way of the roof collapsing. most injuries in rollovers come from hitting the A pillar or door jamb to the left of your head. A harness will keep you in the seat better which will keep you out of harms way for 99% of accidents.. for the record, there is only one 4 point harness that is designed to prevent submarining (schroth). all others have a problem with it.

Hmm I'm getting a free 4pt harness. I guess I'll install it once to see what you guys mean.... even though I have a pretty good idea already.

I guess I'll keep on with the stock belt for now.....

I bought my seats with universal height adjustable sliders that typically cost $50 a pair. The brackets I use are by Wedge engineering (they make brackets all day long) and cost $60 each. You want a bracket that is properly centered and has the ideal height for you. This was my biggest concern. About the harness, obviously a roll bar is an ideal mounting location for a harness but not necessary. You can just mount it under the back seat. Just make sure the angle is alright.
