Usually if the knob comes off while shifting, I'll miss and grind it pretty bad b/c I shift open handed... it's hilarious to whoever's in/around the car.

The leather in my e21 knob went to all hell and left the wood exposed, after a year of driving the oils from your hands do a nice job of polishing and darkening the wood...

Man, you guys (and girl) are all pussies. Bloody noses.

I actually yanked off Jarvis' shift knob once when I was driving his car. The thing went flying. That was pretty funny.

It's always a funny moment. When it happened with me, I was with all my friends in the car.... I was downshifting to 2nd to make a turn and the thing came off, so I threw it to my friends in the back and said "here, catch"

The expression on their faces was priceless <-----them me---->

I had to step half way out of the car to get enough leverage. It's either that, or put your stomach right over the shift knob - so, when it flies off, it hits your stomach rather than your face.

Careful not to twist too much cause I did that and actually cracked the linkage. But then again, I'm huge. Oh well, it's a good thing my friend has a welder. Best bet is to pull straight up with as littlel twisting as possible.

Yea, I was going to mention that too. The walk thrus I read also said not to twist the knob. If you think about it, what that does is actually turn the linkage, not just the knob (since the knob is held in place in that little groove). (basically what he said ;))

So, yes, it's a good idea NOT to twist.

So basically what you're saying is you polished your knob with your hand while driving?? YOU PERVERT!!
