    Snapped the Rear view mirror

I removed the rear-view view mirrow to clean it and when I tried to put it back on it's pivot point/ball the whole assembly snapped from the headliner area!!!

Did I just break it, or is there a trick to this ? There is a spring on there, but I don't understand how this work and how to put it back in there

Mine is just a basic mirror , #1 in http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...68&hg=51&fg=40

    Help

I doubt you broke it, its pretty hard. To get it back on the car is pretty hard though because it needs a bit of pressure. Try to get one side in first and then get like a hammer with a rubber handle on the other side and just push it in, that how I got mine on.

OT: I got a mirror for sale if anything.

Here's what I did.....take some little, i mean TINY, zip ties. Use a set of channel locks to compress the pins and the spring enough to put two of those little zip ties in, one on each side. Then, put the mirror up in it's little spot, force it if need be, pull out zip ties while holding mirror in place (to make sure it doesn't come down in the process). Easy as pie.

Correct, it doesn't look broken but I can't see / feel where it needs to snap in and will try the zip tie method. The only thing it broke when it came off was the corner of the cardboard type material used infront of the headliner near the windshield but I don't think it mounts to that...

Ok, got the mirror base attached back to the car.. What's the secret or trick to getting the mirror itself on the damn ball ? I tried different angles and it doesn't wan't to slip on.

I found out it's easier to mount the mirror on the metal base, and then pop the base back in it's place.
