I'm not 100% positive, but I think the M3 sport seats do go lower. I'm borrowing a 318is right now and the seats don't go as low as mine.. I feel like I'm sitting on a bar stool. but it could just be garbage under the seats keeping me from lowering any further.
Or you can get after markets like recaros, sparco, corbeaus etc. With some of the brackets, you are frickin down there if that is your desire, even if you are 6'6. :)
I have a question about sport seats. My e came with them stock and they went up and down. They looked like a bear got ahold of them so i replaced them with a set of leather sport seats from a 88 parts car i had. The sport seats from the 88 tilts back and forth instead of going up and down like the ones in my 85e. So do different years have different sport seats?
sport seats should have two levers on the outside edge. I dont think there were any diff versions of sport seats. Sport models had one version, Cabrios had another that doesnt lay back all the way, and the m3's.
Aren't the m3 factory seats made by recaro for bmw? I dont recall, but I thought thats why m3 ones are diff.

Yeah, I would really like to keep my sport seat, as it is still in GREAT shape.

no, they aren't made by recaro. and they are different.. at least, the tracks have different part #s for the M3.
I was going to hack at my seats before plunking down some change for sport seats or aftermarket. Right now the regular seats are just too damn high, and will never work w/ a helmet and my 6'4" ass.
I've got a friend that can do CNC work, but I'm guessing a nice steel bracket is better than a milled alu part.
