What specific year/model e30 came with a cabin filter ?

I found on realoem.com a cabin filter but my car obviously didn't come with one and I haven't seen one that came with it. Is this only for euro or canadian e30s with no A/C or ?

only cars with no A/C came with the cabin filter, so that means none of the cars in the USA - I don't know about canada though.

That's what I gather. I guess i'll just order the filter and see if it's the exact size to fit the hole at the firewall. If it's not then i'll just use the gasket as a template for the right size "cover" to cover the whole.

One of the parts counter guys at the local dealership didn't have one on hand, but said the 92,93 cabrios came with it and it was mounted on the right size of the firewall ?

            No idea....

Wait, wait, wait, the point of a cabin air filter is to filter the air that comes through your cowl vents coming into your cabin. there should not be any air being sucked into your cabin from the engine bay.

Correct, but since I don't have any of the A/C heater box under the dash there is hole there that lets everything from outside in (through the cowl vents). I was thinking about putting a filter there to let some fresh air in and let the filter block the dirt/leafs etc or i'll just close it shot. It's not getting anything in from the engine bay as the outside cover under the hood is in place.

okay, i wouldnt seal it shut. If in the case you windows stopped working in the middle of the summer it can get pretty uncomfortable really fast.

I don't believe NA models came with cabin filters. I did hear some Japanese models did and some that were exported to South Africa. I also heard they were in the later model e30s 90+92.

Years ago I re-installed a heater/ac box with all new gaskets, just no A/C (or cabin filter).

any validation of this? I have a 12/92 build cab and my hvac blows really wimpy. I don't know what else would cause this unless a bunch of fins on the blower are broken.

You can visually inspect the blower motor pretty easily from the engine bay. Just a few 8mm(?) screws that hold the insulation on, then peel that back and there you are.
