Recaro and Sparco are fine, but...

I'm doing my baby on a tight budget and not planning on racing her. Sadly, my 30 yr old vert seats have a little leather around the holes. $1500 for new covers front and rear is not doable. And replacements from a donor ain't gonna be in any better shape. Has anyone ever tried using other manufacturer's/years seats? Audi, Merc. Will they bolt right in? Will they even fit between the door and console?
