I talked with Cary (golde30) shortly about this and he said I need kind of a spacer to run the wheel, I do believe him but I was wondering if anyone else has done this and if so what did they do.
Yeah I would assume so Danny. I did try the washer route but they made a lot of noise when turning the wheel, so I went with 2 of those #4 spacers from a non air bag car. I needed the same amount of spacers on a Nardi, Momo & BBS wheel, so the Mtech 1 is probably no different in what it needs.
There is alot of "different ways" to do it, but there is really only one way to do it "right". you need all the non-airbag stalks and just simply have a spacer on the top end of the wheel and and bolt it down as is. Remember to break off the plastic thing that is for the airbag, its around 9 oclock or 10 oclock on the hub.
Scenario 1 - spacing out from the bottom so its the right distance between the stalk... there will be a gap between the hub and the wheel and you loose the steering lock function
Scenario 2 - if you space it from the top you will be too close to the stalks and it will be bothersome at first and you will get use to it, but if you look at it... it doesnt seem right. So you need the non airbag stalks
Scenario 3 - if you space some on top and bottom, there will still be a gap, but this would be the best scenario if you dotn get the right stalks.
Scenario 4 - do it right with the right stalk and the right spacer.
I have a whole different take on this, Put in a giant washer on the inner rim of the the m tech wheel and the airbag washer over that and throw the nut on . Basically solves the all the other problems, the only thing is the stalk is kind of close but i like that.
Does anyone have any pictures of this besides the Real OEM page? I was trying to do some research on this myself, but the only thread was old and had broken pictures.
I've never pulled my wheel off, but I'll be getting an M-tech II very shortly, so I'd like to know the proper way to do this without any binding/noise/gaps.
thereisnoyun, by any chance do you know if an e28 stalk would work? I'd have access to an e28 stalk before an e30 stalk.
