I was in my gf's E36 today and I liked her headliner material. My canvas looks dated and I was interested if anyone has redone the headliner (preferably black  ) and has pictures?

Hah that looks great. BTW, where in Sacramento are you located? I know I'd remember your car if I ever saw it, but I never have. :shock:I retired my E30 for now...

hi ,
i know its a bit late but you can use matt black areosol spray paint on them, even without removing it from the car. After a few coats you cant tell the differance between a proper one and a painted one.I did this on my previous e30 and it looks the same as the black one in my current e30 which is an original black one.Comment

im not interested in painting mine. the material looks ugly to me and besides, there are a couple of cracks on the sunroof liner. it's just gonna be redone in black cloth. thanks, though.I retired my E30 for now...

I want to do something to mine without removing it. It seems like it'd be VERY hard to spray paint it without making it look totally uneven, and getting overspray mist all over the car. Is there anything that you can brush or spread on that would work?Comment

i managed to do it in the car, just masked everything up.When i applied the first coat i thought ,shit what have i done.It looked all streaky but after another 2 coats and once it had dried it looked exactly the same as the original in my current e30.Even the sunroof panel was ok after opening and shutting it.
Important to use MATT paint though.Comment

not to mention getting high as hell..... you can paint the material and it will look ok.... but make sure you dont get sidetracked and start writing your name or drawing a peace sign.... (it can happen easily)Comment

TJ, there are dye kits that come with some kind of sponge type applicator brush and a roller. Basically just like painting, but with "dye." I couldn't tell you which I got, it was so long ago. Just look around for interior dyes, headliner dyes, etc...Originally posted by DigitalwaveI want to do something to mine without removing it.
