Cracked dash on my 89 325ix

I am picking up a 1989 325ix next week. The dash is cracked and the guy is telling me they make great looking covers that go over the dash. I'm skeptical. How hard is it to replace a dash? Can you find good ones in junk yards? What are my options? Thanks!

Depending on where the car lived, you might get lucky. Seems some people are starting to gouge for uncracked dashboards. New is like $550ish, IIRC. I sold my last one for $80, which is probably not enough, but that is how friends treat each other, IMO.

As far as putting one in, yeah, it is a pain. Set aside an entire day, but go buy a a "Skewdriver" first.

The covers are absolute crap. Don't waste your time.

This exact topic has been covered and recovered over 30 times If he would have searched "cracked dash" then he could have found his answer, OLD FART.

Just saying "search" is just plain lazy on your behalf.

Now on with the OP. Most of those dash caps i've seen fit like poopies. You'd be better off with another dash pad like Luke said. And don't forget to save your vin off of your old dash. And maybe you'll find someone like me that will just give a nice dash away to get it out of the way.

            Thanks!

Thanks for the help. I will get the "skewdriver". Never heard of it, but I just googled it. I'm always up for a new tool!

I will try to use the search more!

Dash swap.....oh the memories.....the memories of how my speedometer and power windows used to work before I did it :nice:

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

I just put a dash in my car recently. It wasn't really all that tough, the biggest bitch is the HVAC panel.

Just take your time, you shouldn't beat your head against the wall that much.

I've never done an e30, but did a MB 300TD last week and it wasn't too bad. Just be methodical and organized. It really helps if you can pull the dash from the donor car. That way if you break anything, you'll know better when you take apart your car.
