I have the same problem with stock-style shift knobs. They wear out pretty quickly and I wasn't able to find any good way to get them to stay on once they've come off once or twice.
I love my momo knob. I think its called short anatomico. They stay on just fine if you wrap the lever a few times with electrical tape and then loc-tite the set screws.

The Whalen knob just clicks on and off. You can yank on it all you want, no twisting, nothing. Then a simple pull and release to remove. No more yanking and tugging on your shifter.

I've never used one of the ZHP weighted ones, but I hear they're badass.

I have a Momo short anatomic, I love it. $40 shipped from Neuspeed.com.

I have a Sparco weighted ball knob. Feels awesome in your hand, and is super short.

I have that knob, but weighted less. IMO an awesome knob, less stress on the componets id imagine, but still a little wieght... and purdyyyy

                              zhp knob all the way.

best looking stock weighted knob imo.

I used to have that same knob, and one time slamming into second, the top half of it came off in my hand. I was PISSED.
