Find a maplight rearview mirror and do the swap. There should be a write up on how to do it if you search.
I swapped one into my vert and it's great.sigpic

Or needlessly difficult to adapt to operate with the domelights, or require swapping mounting arms (well, if you have a cabrio), or make the bulbs any cheaper....
Head to the junkyard, Stop by one of the 500 80's GM cars in there, pay the $2 and take the map light mirror off of that. It even has a lead for dome light connection! Sweet!
Or you can go a little fancier....
Remember, there are options, and those E30 mirrors aren't getting any more plentiful or cheaper anytime soon.-Dave

Correct, but not in the same location the factory cabrio mirrors are glued on which is almost at the top border of the windshield. The GM mirror mount is located straight back from the mirror on the glass.
My mirror is from a '96 Deville. Oddly enough I didn't use one with map lights as I had this one laying around, and the mirror with the lights was in the Cadillac. It's nice though, digital compass and electrochromatic dimming.-Dave

I installed the bavauto 6-led light in my vert, it's bright and works great. simple and excellent mod.
The website stinks when it comes to trying to link to stuff, here's a link to the pic:
I was pretty satisfied so I bought 2 of the 12 LED ones for the hardtop dome lights. They are very bright and have a sharp white color, very nice. I'm sort of considering measuring to see if I can fit a 12 in the smaller dome light of the vert, but since that one is more in-your-face I think i'll just pass and not get blinded. The 6 is plenty.
2 thumbs up. If they weren't so expensive I'd put those damn things EVERYWHERE.Comment

My oem filament bulb works fine. I took that out and proceed to install the led. Nothing! Put the oem bulb back in and works. F***! I'm going to try the other adapter bulbs tomorrow and see if the led board is bad. If it works, than shiet I don't know about the round base adapter.Comment

Granted, but sometimes the QC on stuff like that isn't the most stringent... Couldn't hurt to swap the wires on the dome light itself, right?
I thought you had the one pictured where it was a wedge socket that plugged into the twist base adapter. The wedge socket is what I was originally referring to.-Dave
