E30 Touring Headlight Leveling
I have a 1990 Touring and it came with the adjustable headlight leveling dial. I’ve realized that somehow the whole system still works, the only issue I have is that it would seem the previous owner must have swapped out sealed beams for some Euro Smileys, with that the headlights kinda just float around in the buckets, I can push on the bottom of the headlight and it just rocks back and forth like they are only connected at the top. Has anyone had any experience with making the leveling system work with the updated headlights? If not possible to make it work, has anyone had any luck with properly mounting the headlights so it’s actually possible to aim them?

Touring would never have had sealed beams, and if I recall, smileys or other projector lights are larger/taller than sealed beam buckets.
In any case, if your lights move when you push them a mount or two is probably broken. Remove your headlight assembly, or at minimum, the grille, and diagnose the actual issue.
