Anyone have ellipsoid projector fog lamps?

This is probably retarded but I've never actually seen these. Anyone know the BMW part number?

Aren't they all like that and that is just one that doesn't have 20 years worth of sand blasting.

woah, that's pretty interesting. Never new they made those for e30s.
A lot of e34's and e32's come stock with ellipsoid foglights with H1 bulbs, I've always planned on doing a retro-fit someday into an e30 foglight housing

It's cool to see that was a factory option, but I've never seen any e30 with them, euro or otherwise for the 4+ years I've been on these forums.

That's a different projector from the one that I've seen in the normal ellipsoid fogs. A round lens is a significant change from an oval one.

I've never seen one like that in the wild.

They are definitely factory. This is from an original German brochure.

Weird, never seen those before. The stock projector fogs are oval.

from what i can tell, those are the normal oval 'projectors' fogs. they are covered with some kind of paint on the back of the lens or a plastic shield (like the plastic ring inside the projector headlight) which has a round opening around the main part of the projector where the light is emitted.

notice how the fog light is a much lighter color than normal? on my car you can see the stock fogs are nearly as dark as smoked headlights. the ones the OP posted are as light as stock headlights.

so they ARE different cosmetically, but functionally the same. anyone could make there fog look like this if they popped off the lenses.

I need to get myself a set of ellipsoid fogs. My stock ones are cracked and they are non ellipsoid, so I might as well upgrade. It's a 1990 325i plastic bumpers. What should I be looking for if I want to get used OEM? Is Hella and/or Bosch the manufacturers? Is there a difference between US and euro ellipsoid fogs?

Thanks for the info, I just did a bunch of research on e30 headlights, but none on fog lights.

unless someone can pipe in an say there are different fogs that BMW made at some point (i've never seen evidence of this), those ones posted are most likely the same ones you have on your late model cars, just cosmetically a little different.

so far as I know, those never made it into production. All plastic-bumper OEM fogs are technically ellipsoid; look closely and you will see the glass lens. The OE lens is not round, and the cutoff is managed by shaping the glass rather than with a physical cutoff plate like that would have. Euro fogs are the same as U.S. fogs.
