All you need is Testor's model spray paint, Ruby Flake Metallic. Any hobby should carry / be able to get it.

Ruby Flake Metallic is the color that just about everyone who has done their tails has used.

Is this a transparent paint or just regular red paint?

                Transparent.

I used Testor's Candy Apple Red, I prefer the shade.

Candy Apple Red matches much better than the Metal Flake.

 crappy tire! The Americans won't know what crappy tire is aka. cambodian tire.

Anyways, if it is the Testor's transparent paint you are looking for, I found it at Wal-Mart as well. It was cheaper than the Hobby shop that I bought mine from (though it doesn't really matter because the paint is only like $5).

From the pictures I have seen, it does appear to match better. I have Ruby Red on mine, and it looks great but only in direct sunlight. If its indirect light, it looks too dark.

Ruby Red Metal flake is for the smaller pre-'88 taillights.

Candy Apple Red might match the later larger post '88 taillights

I bought both back when i did mine and tried the Candy Apple first, using one coat just wasn't red enough, and if you use any more, it screws up the texture of the lens and doesnt match the rest of it. So I took it off right after spraying and used Ruby Red Metal Flake and it matches my tails perfect in every light. Also, after the one coat of paint, I used one of clear coat and today it looks exactly the same as it did years ago when I did it.
