    Question about HID install (I searched)

    Going from older sealed beams to euro ellips with DDM HID kit. I know that the sealed beams have three wires: Ground, Hot-Lo Beam, Hot-Dual Filament. I know that you hook up the Ground and Hot-Lo Beam to the HID kit, and that most people just seal off the third wire.

    BUT, if you are going HIDs, I also know that you should jumper the hi/lo beam relays so that the lows stay on when the hi beams are on to avoid wear on HIDs, BUT I've also read that you can just dual wire the Hot-Lo Beam and Hot-Dual Filament to the power wire on the HID kit for the same effect.

    While I get that both ways might have the same end result, is one necessarily the "better" or "right" way to do it, or same damn thing?

      I too would like to know this. I think we havevthe same question... I bought used hid ellips and coming from sealed beams. The connector on the ellips have 2 wires, while my car has 3.

          Yes, I read that post, but I've also seen that instead of ignoring the third wire for the sealed beam dual filament, you can splice this wire with the other power wire to the elips. That way, when you go to high beams, the lows remain on versus jumping the relays. I ask because I think I could get a better connection with soldering three wires together vs. soldering wire to the relay legs.

            Ok, and when you do that, what keeps the highs from coming on with the lows?

              stop overthinking it and just jumper the relay. You don't even need to make it permanent, just stuff a wire in there and put the relays overtop of it.

                I have had Apexcone HIDs in my E36 for years and my low beams don't stay on with my Hi beams. Don't worry about it. In fact, I don't think I've heard one person with aftermarket HIDs say they've burnt out their low beam HID because of constantly switching. I've been doing it for 6 years without issue.
