Bump, just did this the other day, I used the heat gun slightly differently than this DIY, only used it on the curved edges, and just peeled back the backing about an inch or two at a time as I went, pushing it down in one direction to avoid bubbles.

Anyway, thanks to your suggestions it came out great, here's a picture with only the left done. I love the way it looks.

I purchased the vinyl from rvinyl on ebay, was about $8 for a 12*48" roll.

No. Looks like a bright brake light.

I used that vinyl stuff once, it lasted about a 3 months then once the summer heat got to it it began to unravel, but yours looks top notch!

Just wanted to bump this back up....

The vinyl is still holding. There is no peeling/bubbles anywhere.

I got it off ebay awhile ago, I'm pretty sure it's all the same stuff. I got it from metro restyling http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_6185wt_939

Probably took me about 30 minutes for the first one, and about 20 for the second.

For me, it's a good enough finish. No one I tell believes me that I did it myself...they think it comes stock with all red :)

I painted mine, but the finish product on this is really good. I think the idea that if you really get bored of them im sure you can peel it back off or even change the look by cutting the reverse and having all reds with the white reverse. Thanx for the DIY good job.

very good job. i work with vinyl all day long and you did an impressive job for a first timer. especially since you didnt use any surfactant.

    Sorry.

Nice write up, though I also prefer the look of a nice paint job. Interesting alternative though.
