When I bought my E30 it had Angel Eyes... I swapped them out with sealed beams that day. If someone choses sealed beams over HID Halos, you know they have to look like shit.

Honestly on a budget, the USDM ellipsoids or the DEPO crap is your best bet.

The used euro stuff for sale generally speaking is showing its age pretty badly (though a good seller makes all the difference...) and the new euro stuff, while being the best choice, is very costly.

The USDM ellips tend to be in better shape for some reason and are usually cheaper. The quality is also excellent as expected with OE BMW parts.

The Depo stuff IS chinese crap. but it is new chinese crap, and the newest OE ellipsoid you are gonna get is still over 20 years old. The angel eye lights are absolutely horrid and have as near as anyone can tell no engineering in their design, but their smiley knockoffs are crappy quality versions of a good design.


I cannot believe what the Hella stuff is fetching these days. You can buy three sets of the depo lights and have money left over for what one set of the Hella lights cost. The joys of a weak dollar I guess.... I wonder how long they will be in production for though, soon you might not be able to get a new quality set of lights for an E30 at this rate.
