I have Osram Silverstars in both my cars. The M3 has Euro ellipsoids (H1) and the 318i has H4's. I bought the H1's from SUV Lights.com.
I have tried several of the blue bulbs and I didn't like any of them.
Interesting article about 9005-9006 headlight bulbs in this month's Roundel. They were tested in an E36.
    The winner was Toshiba HIR.

do they produce a bluish color? that is what I am trying to stay away from.

Also what is the wattage rating?

Buy 80 or 100 watt halogen bulbs.
E34 US ellips HATE higher watt bulbs, and melt to shit pretty quickly with them. DON'T do this.

9005 bulbs in the 9006 housing will yield good results though, as Heeter so nicely put.

No bluish light at all. The bulbs themselves have a very light bluish tint to them but the light it produces is just a clean white light. I despise blue-tinted headlights so I would have quickly replaced them if they showed any blue in the actual light but they don't. They're rated at 65 watts.

Note: While you'll get them to fit without trimming one of the 3 'ears' it'll sit a little cockeyed and you'll get a strange hotspot of light to one side.

Correction to original post: The high beam bulbs I use are the 9005s

Modify 9005 bulbs to fit 9006 low beams. MORE LIGHT. Like a lot more.

You can use any like $5 or whatever off the shelf bulb and make an improvement. No fancy ricer bulbs required.

No one with US ellips is running Osram Silverstars. Your lighting upgrade would be 9005 bulbs of good quality (Phillips, Hella, Osram..)
