    Differences between Euro and US Fogs

    I hate that I can't have my fogs on in my 89 325iX when I have my brights on. In my euro convertible, it makes a whole world of a difference being able to have them on at the sametime. Its also nice being able to just have the fogs on at the sametime.

    Now, having said that, I know you can jump the fog relay with a wire. But my question is, what makes the euro's different that allows them to be on while the brights are on? Is the relay just different? That would be an easy and more permanent fix and one that I would feel more comfortable doing, just switching out a relay.

    Tomorrow evening I am going to take a look at the differences between the relays in my convertible and my iX.

    If anyone knows where the relay for the fogs is located in the fusebox for an '86 325i is, please let me know. Otherwise I will let you all know what I come up with.

    why would you need your fogs on with your brights? your high beams are going to be so much brighter than your fogs that it doesn't matter anyway.

    in any case, you can do the same modifcation people do for their euro ellipsoids into sealed beam cars. basically jump a wire between the headlight relays.

      Theres a difference having your highs on and your fogs. A huge difference. I'm just wondering what makes the Euro's different from the US versions. Is it a relay or the wiring itself?

        I agree. If you have your brights on, the foglights aren't going to do a damn thing for you. Fogs are there when you can't use the brights because of glare.

        Are you one of those guys that drives around with only his parking lights on?

          So it lights up the ground more like 8 feet in front of your car? Who cares? Just jump the relay.

            Well I can tell you there is a huge benefit to having your lows/highs/fogs on all at once on a 88+ e30.

            The later style fogs are ellipsoidal, and direct most of the light directly in front but more importantly out to both sides. It illuminates the ditches, fields, etc all to the side for a long ways off the road. Very nice when you are attacking back roads late at night.

              Agreed, my previous owner did a swell job hotwiring mine. 8)

                on my late model it definately helps with short distance beam. on my early model it doesnt help that much

                  I thought the point was to stay on the road. What are you looking in the ditches for? Unless you're sightseeing.

                        Being that I'm 27, plus two years with a permit before I turned 16, that would be 13 years now. How 'bout you? Besides small vermin such as mice and chipmunks, I have never hit an animal in any of my cars. Nor do I drive with brights/ fogs simaltaneously. Point well taken though. To each, his own.

                          Well for someone with that amount of time behind the wheel you should have had some common sense.

                          I've had numerious deer jump out ahead of me in my 7yrs of driving. Also small vermin do not fit under my front lip, so I also have to worry about that.

                          A chipmonk at 60mph might as well be a cinder block.

                              There is a huge fucking difference in having the fogs through all the combinations. It sucks for oncoming traffic though. I always turn my brights off for oncoming traffic and when I remember, I turn the fogs off.

                              Thats in my Euro cabrio though. It has the same fogs that are in the M3's.
